EXCHANGE OF GOODS Century #Subject Enrichment
Skills
Many years ago, in the village of Rampur,
people exchanged goods directly, without
using money. Gopal Chacha gave two
pots of honey to Meena Bua and in return,
she gave him three bundles of firewood.
Meena Bua later exchanged three
bundles of firewood with Ramu Bhaiya for Gopal Chacha Meena Bua Meena Bua Ramu Bhaiya
a basket of mangoes.
This system worked because everyone traded based on their needs. Gopal Chacha
needed firewood for cooking and Meena Bua used honey to make sweets. Ramu
Bhaiya happily gave mangoes for the firewood he needed to dry clothes during the
rainy season.
But times have changed. Today, we use money to buy and sell things. We no longer
need to find someone to exchange their goods with ours. Instead, we use notes and
coins — like `1, `5, `10, `50, `100 and more — to pay for goods and services. Now, Gopal
Chacha can sell honey at the market for `200 and use that money to buy anything he
needs — whether it is firewood, fruits, or clothes.
Money makes trade easier, quicker and more convenient for everyone.
